Arsenal v Aston Villa preview

27 12 2009

3rd v 4th today. Many thought that we would be nowhere near the top 4, let alone sitting in 3rd place come Christmas time. But our results have in the main been good and the other title contenders have had numerous slip-ups along the way, yesterday Chelsea did it again by drawing 0-0 at Birmingham. We need to take these chances while we have them.

In team news Armand Traore is back following his hamstring injury, which is great news as Silvestre against Ashely Young was not something I wished to sit through today. Cesc was, on Christmas eve, rated as 50:50 to play. I’m not sure if I would want to see him risked if he is not fully ready to return, a longer layoff later in the season could be costly if we are still in contention. We have never beaten Villa at the grove and it promises to be a tough game, as it always has been against O’Neil’s Villa side. A draw would be a decent result today but of course I am hoping for that win.

Hope you all had a good Christmas and here’s to a late present from Arsenal. Come on you gunners!
